Split in February: A Different Kind of Winter

We were in Split during Christmas, but coming back in February felt like returning to a completely different city. December was full of lights, markets, music, and festive crowds. February, on the other hand, was relaxed, sunny, and wonderfully outdoorsy — the kind of winter that only the Adriatic knows how to create.

We came because Siniša had some business to take care of, but it became the perfect chance to revisit the places we missed last time. The Riva was bright with winter sun, cafés full of locals, and the market buzzing with everyday life. Split doesn’t really “sleep” in the off‑season — it just shifts into a calmer rhythm.
Even Bačvice Beach was alive.
Swimmers, picigin players, and people enjoying the shallow sandy bay made it clear that winter here is just another version of summer, only softer and more peaceful.

Seeing Split in two different winter moods — December and February — showed us how vibrant the city stays all year. The festive glow of Christmas and the warm, easy energy of late winter feel like two sides of the same heartbeat.
We also finally tried Salt Gluten Free House, a restaurant we discovered too late during our December trip. It’s funny how something small can stay with you and bring you back — a reminder that travel is often shaped by the little things.
A simple February weekend in Split: sun, sea, good food, and a city that feels alive in every season.
