I know it was the 80s, but no exact year. I was in high school and working during summer. That much I do remember. I managed to save enough to go to Paris on my own. Recently, I started scanning all my old photographs and found these from Paris. I started wondering if there in […]
Today I enjoyed walking around and photographing what caught my eye with simplicity of an instant camera. No fuss. Hipstamatic camera used like in previous post.
How to take long exposure shots with an iPhone? There are many Apps that create long exposure with iPhone and this is not a review post. I chose one – Slow Shutter, paid for it and I am very happy to shot with it. Just a quick walk around town at dawn (of […]
Fun with my new iPhone App Even though I have an iPhone for ages and it’s almost time to replace it with a newer model, I acquired to photography apps just recently. Photographers and cameras, eh?! 🙂 It’s like having 6 different cameras with me, not counting regular iPhone camera. So, even before dawn I […]
Winter in some causes irritation, restlessness that they can’t pinpoint to anything specific. It is the bad weather syndrome. We are less able to change locations during bad weather. COVID-19 is like a bad weather period as restrained us to stay in one location for way to long. Change of perspective in a different way […]
It’s a bit bombastic, I mean, the title. Playing with infras The thing is that few days ago was sunny in Kinsale. Yes, it’s Ireland and sun during winter is not a common occurrence. Well, I took my full spectrum adapted Fuji XA3 and decided to take some infrareds. Usually I was using a really […]
Exa 1a soft bokeh Wedged. This image is already available here In my wanderings around Ireland, I seem to be more keen to go back to soft, unsharp images. As in the whirlwinds of the Instagram all sharp, saturated, applied filters etc. images start to merge into one endless stream of sunsets, smiles, sandy beaches […]
Hungry for travels? Today, newspaper in Ireland announced significant easing of restrictions. We returned from our trip to Croatia a few days ago and are still in home quarantine. Traveling was never so complicated like these days. If we didn’t have to, we wouldn’t. Apart from paying for all sorts of tests and increased stress […]
Oreston Görlitz 50mm F/1.8 with Fuji Xt3 Made in East Germany from approx 1960 to 1971 this lens is my all favourite for close ups. It was a bit neglected by me, waiting in my bag, till yesterday. On Face group someone asked me which are the analog lenses that I use with my Fuji. I […]
Film photography – does it have a soul? The weather in Ireland was dark, greyish, low light for days, in one word not ideal for someone who uses natural light for still photography on film. Finally, yesterday I had enough of waiting and setup the scene. Lilies that we bought few days ago were getting […]
Lockdown days are eased with shooting stills The art of still life is very old, I read that still life paintings in Egypt were created in 15th century BC. By the definition found on Modern Met “A still life (also known by its French title, nature morte) painting is a piece that features an arrangement […]
Toyo 4×5 and my love for large format Another box of unpacked film was lying in my fridge for three years. Rollei Ortho 25 plus that I didn’t know what to do with and how it will behave. I guess blustery wind with sleet is as good reason as any to stay indoors and shoot […]
With pandemic lockdown in Ireland that goes on and on, I was forced to dig dipper in to my drawers and be more indoors. I found a few sheets of an Adox CMS II for my 4×5 Toyobo and arranged a still shot. For development of these sheets I used Adonal, which is Rodinal based. […]
What I love about analog photography – mystery, surprise and excitement of developing a roll long forgotten – I forgot that I have a film in my camera which was already expired when the roll was put in the camera… so a couple of years later, I shot the rest of the frames and developed […]
Fujifilm XT3 and lens Minolta MD 100-300 I love merging old and new. The effect of using an old lens with modern digital camera has certain unpredictability and special softness in colours. At dawn when night gives way to daylight, when colours burst in layers, at dawn I love to stand at the edge of […]
I love summer! I love sunshine, blue sky and sparkles ✨ on sea surface. Wherever I am, I carry in me memories of past happy summers on the Adriatic. Even Atlantic Ocean in Ireland looks and feels like Mediterranean on my photographs. It really doesn’t matter if it’s black and white, or colour. Feel it. […]
This weekend is the yearly art event in Kinsale – Kinsale Artists Weekend (very imaginative name lol) and my photograph is exhibited in one of the windows. Theme is HOPE and there is a text with it: “During lockdown we were very limited in our movements. One of the first days when we were allowed […]
I’ve always been alternative photographer. That statement means that I’ve always explored and pushed medium in different directions. I have an inquisitive mind. Infrareds are so beautiful. Look at them. Landscape on a completely different level. Recognisable, but different. Familiar but … Ireland in red, white and blue. I guess my Croatian heritage jumps and […]
There is not a lot to say about interesting streets of Zagreb, that is not been said already in numerous travel brochures. It is a typical European mixture of old and new architecture. One of the most recognisable features are towers of the Cathedral. It is my home town, but I am coming to it […]
I know there will be people who are appalled with the look of IR photographs, but who cares about them. They can go and look somebody else’s web site 😉 In the flood of images online, I am finding really refreshing to see the world twisted and odd with my IR camera. It’s the same […]
your vacation photos are done with Infrared Camera? Well, very busy year is almost at the end. We traveled a lot. I had all kinds of cameras with me, a drone or two, a GoPro or two, a Fuji or two, you get the picture ;)… among that I was sketching, drawing, painting. (check silaart.picfair.com […]
For me being an artist means, to be in a constant state of curiosity. We, my hubby and I love to fly with our drones. Me, as this gives me birds eye perspective, something I wouldn’t be able to see otherwise. My hubby, he loves to fly. It is still the same feeling I had […]
Christmas time is …. different for each and every one of us. As a visual artist, I recorded what I saw with Exa 1a camera and on Kodak Tmax film. Wishing you all very blessed and happy Christmas!
…and I can keep posting photographs – just for the love of it 😊 Minolta X500 and Rollei Retro 400S, developed in RO9 one shot. Rain in Ireland comes suddenly and disappears suddenly. Standing on the edge of the cliffs and watching ships that pass by on the horizon is one of my favourite things. […]
One of the happiest moments in my life is when scent of a freshly opened tube of etching ink is spreading through the air and a new etched Toyobo plate is in front of me. The dark, dark heart of mine 😉
You are invited to the launch of HALFTONE Dublin‘s Fresh New Print Fair 2nd November at The Library Project. I am one of the 80 artist exhibiting and selling at the Halftone. I hope you are all rested and relaxed after summer holidays, cos I’m not 😀 . It was an extreme summer, but I managed to create pretty good photographs. Oddly enough, I took only two cameras with me – Konica and SeaSea Marine. Both simple, old, 35mm. What I envisioned and produced will be posted […]
The Arts Weekend Kinsale is coming to an end. I had a photogravure demo and one of my paintings were in the Philip Gray’s gallery for the exhibition. All in all, I think it went pretty good and some happy ladies went home with a piece of finished photogravure print. I joined the event in […]
I am participating in the Magnum Photography Awards with my photogravure Meeting Point, which is part of my new portfolio sale of six original photogravure photographs: https://www.silaart.com/product/special-edition-portfolio-sixies-photogravure/ If I win the prize on Magnum competition, that portfolio will be worth triple and even more. That is the rule of the market, silly isn’t it?! And if […]
Working on the printmaking press and with ink is the most basic thing. Since the 15th century printmakers were using printing presses. It was only logical that in the 19th century printmaking becomes one of the methods to produce photography. Together they create beautiful artworks. I am continuing with my small edition printing. Only 4 of […]
This morning, I don’t even remember how, I end up reading text about Art Nouveau, Ramon Garcia-Bragado: “Art Nouveau- Whatever the case, each was based on a desire to break with the past, to overcome traditional academic canons and seek new, original concepts and forms that looked to the future. At the same time, however, […]
Yesterday I finished the Advanced Photopolymer Printmaking weekend course with Johnny Bugler at Cork Printmakers. It helped me clear my own perplexities about the process and we did an introduction into experimentation with acid etching, spit bite, etc. I am posting a few of my prints, and sadly I shot it with my phone camera […]
My Nohoval photograph taken by Minolta analog camera, on film, developed by my hand, then processed with my hand with ink and printing press to the final stage of photopolymer photogravure print. Hand made, one of kind. Soon to be for sale in one of Kinsale’s art stores.
After almost a year, and with a little nudge from a client, I am back in to my own world of gum bichromate printing. Today my subjects are Cork city bridges. Paper is Saunders Waterford, that I sized with PVA sizing. I used 3-4 layers of pigments and gum-bichromate to achieve desired look.
After an exciting last Saturday with the Art and Craft fair in Kinsale, and the first public appearance of Kinsale Atlantic Artists as a group, this weekend I was at the Cork Printmakers participating in the course/workshop Photopolymer printmaking with Johnny Bugler. It was amazing two days. We worked hard (and I had to fight […]
It is over a year that I didn’t print any gumoil prints. Moving to Ireland and losing my atelier due to new living accommodations, changed a lot in my artistic life. Recently, I felt that I need to go back to the roots and to work once again with all my fav developing methods, one […]
I have returned from Zagreb a long time ago. It was a short trip, just to open my exhibition and do what else needed to be done. My exhibition about Alternative photography was officially closed yesterday. The goal that I set to myself for that exhibition was: “to remind art lovers and public […]

Ireland in gum by Lidija Ivanek SiLaI am continuing my work with this interesting paper and intentionally cutting off washing time, intervening with brushes and water spray to get desirable look. Eventually I will end up with decent portfolio that I intend to post as such on my front page. It is only one […]
Working on a new paper, Bockingford HP, which is made with woollen particles, makes me rethink the process I was comfortable with. Paper is a vital piece and the “dance” between pigment and paper is what it makes the final image. Wool gives softness in certain areas, somewhat haze look. …working with gum […]
When I found watercolour paper for my painting projects, like this one down, I decide to use it for gum BI and the result is extraordinary! Only one layer on the Muckross House photography and without sizing… ME HAPPY 🙂 SaveSave
By Lidija Ivanek SiLa Some five years ago I visited Rovinj, Croatia. There I had an interesting conversation with an artist and gallery owner. She said to me that the good years of selling art are gone once again. That she is an artist for 30 or so years now and that she survived war […]
Ireland, especially Kinsale, in Summer is like a big botanical garden filled with flowers. My garden is arranged from bushes overflowed with big purple balls of Hydrangeas. This little still life that I arranged with yellow background from thick curtain (curtains are used to shed windows in Ireland…they do not use blinds) mean to me more of the […]
Raven, sitting behind the bush of roses, hiding, trying to steal food for small birds. Smart birds. Always alert. Curios. They are common in Ireland. Their voices are mixed with the seagulls all through the day. SaveSave
